Taro is considered as one of the first grown plants in the history of humans. Being native to Southeast Asia and to be specific India this vegetable is known with a scientific name of Colocasia Esculenta. This vegetable is cooked and consumed in numerous ways depending upon the location it is made in. This plant from which this root is obtained is called as dasheen and it is also known as ‘elephant ears’ in some regions due to the huge leaves which are attached to it. The plant cannot be consumed raw however can be consumed when cooked. In raw form this plant is known to contain oxalates which are harmful for the human body, but when cooked the amounts of oxalates are diminished to a great extent.
