How to Prevent Heatstroke and Sunstroke using Unani

Sunstroke is a phenomenon of imbalance in the body due to the failure of the cooling mechanism of the body. Sweating is a natural way of reducing body temperature. But in hot and humid conditions, the amount of sweating decreases that leads to increase of body temperature and consequently heatstroke and sunstroke takes place. Sunstroke is caused due to excessive dehydration, prolonged exposure to the sun and the disruption of the thermostat balance of the body.

In this article we shall look into the Unani medicines that will help in preventing sunstroke and heatstroke:


  1. Mixture of Tamarind pulp and Alu Bukhara

    This Unani medicine is a good remedy to deal with sunstroke/heatstroke. 15 grams of tamarind pulp and 3 pieces of Alu Bukhara are soaked in 200 mL of water for about an hour. After this, squeeze the mixture and the add ice to the extract and drink it 3-4 times a day. It will help the body in case of heatstroke and sunstroke.

  2. Juice of Unripe mango

    Unripe mango is an effective Unani cure in case of sunstroke/heatstroke. First place the mango in hot ash and then peel the skin. Now grind the unripe mango to get the juice. Add this juice to about 200 ml of water along with sugar and ice. A glass of this juice must be consumed 3 to 4 times a day during sunstroke/heatstroke.

  3. Bengal Gram shrub

    The dried edible parts of Bengal Gram shrub are ground and added to about 150 ml of water. Then the solution is filtered and sweetened with sugar following which ice is added. The solution must be drunk 3-4 times a day for better results against sunstroke/heatstroke.

    Some tips to prevent sunstroke and heatstroke are as follows:

    • When the person is having high fever, place an ice bag on his forehead. This will be helpful to restore the thermodynamic balance of the body.
    • It is advised to carry sufficient amounts of water before going out in the sun.
    • The use of Cap and sunscreen creams is also recommended as a means of protection against the sun.

The above remedies of Unani medicine are applicable depending upon the severity of Sunstroke/heatstroke. If the condition of the person suffering from sunstroke deteriorates, then consult a doctor immediately.
