Coronavirus Update: How Homeopathy helps in prevention of COVID-19

Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has recently issued a health advisory following a meeting of the research councils under it on how Homeopathy helps in prevention of COVID-19 disease caused by Novel Coronavirus (nCov) infection.

CCRH suggests Arsenicum album 30

This advisory suggests the use of homeopathic medicine Arsenicum album 30. It can be taken empty stomach daily for three days as a prophylactic medicine. In case the nCov infection prevails in the community, the dose of this medicine can be repeated after one month and the same three-day empty stomach schedule should be followed.

According to Anil Khurana, head of Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH), a research council of the Ministry of AYUSH, Arsenicum album 30C is used in respiratory disorders and has been in use for more than 220 years with a good safety record. It turned out to be an effective prophylactic medicine during the Swine Flu epidemic that had struck India in 2009. Not to forget the fact that it was the most successful homeopathic medicine given to Swine flu patients as it reduced fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat and headache. These results have led CCRH to consider Arsenicum album 30C as a possible homeopathic intervention against nCov.

Homeopathic medicines have been used extensively for flu and epidemics, but they should be taken in addition to the other measures. It should be your only approach. Homeopathic medicines like Gelsemium 30c and Bryonia 30c are used in flu-like symptoms and their efficacy is established for many years.

Telangana government trusts homeopathy

Telangana government’s AYUSH department has taken the lead and put stalls and kiosks for distributing homeopathic preventive/prophylactic medicine Arsenic Alb 30 P for illness caused owing to Coronavirus. The volunteers are advising people to take six pills daily half an hour before and half an hour after each meal in a day. Parents of the new-borns have been asked to give the infants three pills along with the breast milk. These pills are generally given for respiratory diseases and Swine Flu in different potency levels. These are preventive pills and not a cure.

Even the Queen does

According to the insiders, even Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms relies on Homeopathy to keep herself in good health during the Coronavirus outbreak. Daily Mail reports that during her visits abroad, she is accompanied by a small leather case that has her supply of homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathy seeks inclusion

According to Dr. Arun Bhasme, Secretary-General of the National Federation of Homeopathic Medical Colleges of India (NFHMCI), there is a history that homeopathic medicines have prevented pandemic diseases like chikungunya, dengue, and plague besides being used for their treatment as well. In a letter written to the Minister of State for AYUSH, Shripad Naik, he urged the need for inclusion of homeopathy in India’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He states that homeopathy can play a pivotal role. Expert members and volunteers of our system would like to join in the mission. Combining the homeopathic expertise with the ongoing treatment will hasten the process of recovery of COVID-19 patients. This is bound to reduce the burden on the current healthcare system.
