Curry Plant is the common name given to the flowering plant Helichrysum italicum belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae. Its leaves have a very strong smell. It can grow up to 60cm or more in height and is generally found on dry and sandy grounds of Mediterranean regions. It produces an oil which has anti-inflammatory fungicidal and astringent properties. Useful in burns and chapped skin and also used in perfumes due to its intense fragrance. Even though it is called Curry Plant because of its smell resembling that of curry leaves, curry plant is not used in food or dishes.

Primary Use of Curry Plant

Curry plant is most used for its oil which has a lot of uses. It is a major product in aromatherapy industry now and almost everyone who does aromatherapy uses this. Curry plant is also used as a plant in homes or backyards because of its beautiful small yellow flowers and the fragrance it emits.

  • Monoterpenes: A-pinene, B-pinene, D-limonene, G-curcumene
  • Sesquiterpene: B-carophyllene

  • Aldehydes: Isovaleric
  • Ketones: Diones, italidone, other B-diketones
  • Phenol: Eugenol

  1. It is a very good Antispasmodic

    A spasm or seizure is always unexpected and can occur anywhere in the body be it the lungs, muscles, nerves or any other internal organs and can prove to be fatal sometimes. If a spasm begins, then Helichrysium Essential Oil is very useful in treating it immediately and providing quick relief. It can also act as a prevention agent if taken regularly.

This oil has approximately no side effects or toxic effects but it is recommended that people which have gone surgery recently should not use it as this oil has anticoagulant properties.
